As soon as the weather starts to pick up… haha… who am I kidding! Let’s rephrase that, as soon as the first school holidays roll in, that’s appears to be the perfect time to dig out your old tent and sell it. People will buy second hand tents.
Second hand tents sell extremely well it seems
I’m not talking that old tent that your grandparents used to use, the one with wooden center poles and green canvas, but the one that you bought last year for that festival trip, or the one that you and your family no longer fit inside. Don’t let it clutter up your garage or shed, if it is still in good condition dig it out, photograph it and sell it. We had upgraded over the years and found ourself with no less than three tents, we had an Outwell Winnipeg Vacanza 6 berth tent, a camper van drive away awning made by Outdoor Revolution the Cayman Movelite version and a three berth ‘festival’ tent made by Regatta.
I used a combination of eBay, Facebook and Gumtree and all three tents sold over a weekend. The driveway awning was perfect for our Mazda Bongo, so I advertised that in the Bongo group on Facebook. The guy that bought it came and picked it up as he was in the area. The Outwell tent went initially on eBay but sold through gumtree to a local guy who again came and picked it up. The three man tent I advertised as a perfect ‘festival’ tent and sold it within the hour of position on the Sunday evening on eBay, that one I posted using Hermes couriers.
I made close on £200 selling those tents and we put the proceeds towards our latest purchase, a Berghaus Air 8 tent with porch extension. Can’t wait to get out in that!
By day I used to be a self employed website developer running my company www.designconscious.co.uk but now I have flipped my career on it’s head and I have retrained as a caravan engineer servicing caravans and motorhomes. I can be found at Telford Caravan Services I am also the author of Make Camp. I along with my family love caravanning and time willing we go as much as we can. I have two teenage children so their hobbies and social life take precedence but when we can we are off in our Land Rover Discovery to ‘make camp’ in our Swift Coastline Esprit.
